Viral Octopus strongly believes in a society where there are no limits nor boundaries: no gender, no race, no color or sexual orientation matter.

Viral Octopus supports #DrawYourPride, the initiative where artists draw their own pride float and share it with the whole world!

#Drawyourpride was conceived by the illustrator Sara Tiano and the screenwriter Flavia Forestieri and is organized by Pirati Grafici’s web community to unite the creative world and celebrate Gay Pride even during the Covid-19 emergency.

Large gatherings are forbidden so all the major events that would be planned in Italian cities must be cancelled. But right now, equal rights for people regardless of sexual orientation are as important as ever. So Pirati Grafici decided to organize a digital celebration of Pride.

Gay Pride events are famous for colors, costumes and the incredible energy that the LGBTQIA community brings on the streets during the parades. Today’s Gay Pride events are widely accepted, but behind today’s happy events is a history of struggle and violence.

Gay Pride events are vitals and necessary and we should protect them, because they give us the chance to break that social rules which, many times, are like chains for our freedom.

“Gay is good, gay is proud.”

(Say it clear and loud. Being gay is right. Being gay is something to be proud of.)

Gay Pride is to stay close, it is not to be alone, it is laugh despite the pain, it is joking despite violence and discrimination. It is being “indecent” in the face of arbitrary morality.

It is love in daylight, despite the stink eyes. It is the marvelous, unique opportunity and luck which happened to the best of us, and it gives us the task of fighting for freedom. Even today, when it looks like it’s all accepted, but it isn’t.

We have to fight, because there is no freedom and equality if we’re not all equal and free. It is such a beautiful and long journey and, yes, we clearly have to make it possible, together!

How it works

Download the float template from Pirati Grafici’s website and draw a float with your favourite technique. Afterwords, share it on Instagram using the hashtags #drawyourpride and #piratigrafici and send Pirati Grafici a 2020×2020 pixel version of your drawing through the form on the website page.

Pirati Grafici’s staff will create a pride parade video using all the drawings sent by artists!
